New Sketch... Can't Wait to Paint!

We are moving so I've pretty much had to trade my painting time for packing time lately. It's driving me absolutely bonkers! I did this sketch last night and really like the direction it's going in so someday very soon (knock on wood!) it will be painted. I can't wait - I'm done with this moving nonsense!

Sneak Preview: This Is The Life

 A few weeks ago I got started on a painting entitled "This Is The Life". It's quite large - 36"x48" - and will take awhile to finish, especially since we're moving and I've had to trade painting time for packing time. Ugh. So I thought I'd share a little sneak preview. Don't adjust your screen, that is indeed a baby making a rare appearance. I am sooooo looking forward to having some painting time again!

Sabine, France 1944

I've written in the past about a book I found at a thrift store called "The Family of Woman" which is filled with black and white photography of everyday scenes. There is no commentary about the images so you don't really know what's going on; which is perfect for people like me who like to invent new realities! Every time I flip through the book I am captivated by the face of this little girl sitting on a crate next to her mother who is singing and playing the accordion for tips. Though I don't know their actual story, when I see it I see WWII-era France and the resilience that comes from facing a tragedy without giving up hope for the future.
